Dear Members of D-9,
Welcome to our D-9 Website! District 9 is the second largest district within the ARBA comprising of Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, North and South Carolina, Washington D.C., and Africa. We encompass a talented and varied group of individuals, both open and youth, that have the potential to achieve boundless goals for our commodity/hobby. Collectively we make up a unique whole.
Our oneness as a District was very evident as our District hosted the 90th ARBA Convention in Harrisburg, PA in 2013. This Convention was a highlight for me many reasons, chiefly that this was the first convention that I served as your Director and I was able to co-labor side-by-side with so many talented folks from our District to bring the first Convention in our District since 1976 into fruition.
Briefly about myself, I have been raising rabbits since I was about 8 years old in 4-H. I met my husband and best friend, Brian at the Berks County Rabbit Breeders Association Show in October of 1996. We have 6 wonderful children who also love to raise and show rabbits and cavies as well as assist in whatever way they can at shows. I have had my ARBA judge’s license since 2003. Since obtaining my license I have had the humbling privilege and honor to represent the ARBA and judge across the country and internationally in Canada, Japan, Thailand, and as of June 2014, Australia. I have served the hobby in various capacities over the years.
There are many things that I would like to see for our District. I would love for our District to continue to grow as a cohesive unit. We have many talented and gifted members within our District and I would love to see them grow and strengthen so that we can continue to enjoy our hobby in the years to come. In particular, we need to find ways to engage our youth and retain them as they grow from youth to open members in order to ensure life and vitality within the rabbit and cavy world. Our District needs more judges and we have so many capable youth coming up. We need to encourage these kids to go as far as they can in this organization. Of course, it would also be awesome to see our District host another ARBA Convention. Using what we have learned and growing together, we can achieve almost anything.
This website should serve to be the center of communication for our District. We can cover a wide variety of areas, just please let our webmaster, Christy Gray, know. If you have anything that you would like to add just send it to her or to myself.
I look forward to seeing you all at the shows. If you need anything or have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always available with an open ear.
Many Blessings,
Ruth-Ann Bell
